K610im iSync problem: Download the solution

Posted: March 29th, 2007 | Author: Panagiotis Karageorgakis | Filed under: Apple, Mac OS X, Technology |

[Edit: It looks like Apple may have resolved this issue with the 10.4.9 update to the Mac OS X operating system. I am guessing this because after upgrading, the phone icon in iSync looks like a K610 (a red one actually). And maybe that explains my blog's visit from the apple.com domain. If there's someone that hasn't used my patch and made the phone sync with 10.4.9, please let us know by leaving a comment.]

For all of us Mac users that have bought the Sony Ericsson K610im (i-mode) phone, there was a disappointment when we got back home and tried to sync the new phone with the contacts. Luckily, the solution is quite simple, and here’s how you can make your phone sync with your mac:

Download file

iSync plugin files for SonyEricsson K610im support

Instructions

  1. Download the aforementioned file to your desktop and extract it’s contents. You will see a new folder named SonyEricsson-K610.phoneplugin
  2. Open a finder window and point locate the iSync app in your /Applications folder
    Locate the iSync app
  3. Right click iSync and choose “Show package contents”
  4. A new finder window appears that has only one folder in it, named “Contents”. Open that folder and inside it go to PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns
Browse the Contents folder inside the app
  5. Move the folder SonyEricsson-K610.phoneplugin from your desktop into this folder
    Locate the plugins directory

That’s it, you’re done! Open up iSync again and this time your K610im will be able to sync.

It works!

    Vito,

did you try the method described in this article and it didn’t work? Are you having specific problems into connecting your phone to your Mac? Your message doesn’t help me understand what the problem is.

Please be more specific so I could be of help to you.

Thank You. Yhe problem was my Bluetooth USB adaptor. The Belkin is not compatible with iSync and SonyEriccson phones from the last two years or so. The only USB Bluetooth adaptor supported by Apple is the D-LINK DBT-120.
The K610 (and its variants) is already supported by iSync 2.4. With D-LINK DBT-120 all is OK.
    Regards
    Vito

Ien, a little more info about your problem could help troubleshoot it. Are you trying to sync your phone via bluetooth or a cable? As far as I know, K610i was supposed to be officialy supported, the solution presented in this article was meant for K610im (the i-mode version of the phone).

    Ien,

I just opened iSync on my fresh install of 10.4.11 and the phone is recognized as “K610im”, available for sync. So it should recognize yours too. Try updating to 10.4.11, maybe that will solve the problem.

    Hi there

For which version of iSync is your method supposed to work for? Thanks.

    Cheers….

    Nizz,

I don’t recall what version of iSync there was installed in my machine when I wrote this post (I should have checked when I wrote it). But as I mention in the edit on the top of the post, all should work now since Apple supports the phone. What version of Mac OS / iSync do you use?

  12. #12 Nizz said at 11:42 pm on December 11th, 2007:

That’s the thing….my suspicion is that it works only for iSync version 2 upwards. I’m running OSX 10.3.9 (with iSync v1.5), resisting any upgrade to Tiger or Leopard as I don’t see the upgrades improving my workflow on the current setup tremendously to justify the spending.

Oh well….maybe this is the right time to upgrade. Thanks anyway!
